LAHORE, PAKISTAN – August 11, 2025 – An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore today announced its verdict in the high-profile 09th May Case, holding proceedings inside Kot Lakhpat Jail, sentencing several prominent political leaders while acquitting one. The case is related to the widespread protests and acts of violence that occurred across the country following the arrest of a former prime minister.
An anti terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Monday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, while sentencing PTI’s Ejaz Chaudhry and Yasmin Rashid to 10 years in prison each in the cases pertaining to May 9 riots, Aaj News reported.

ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul delivered the reserved verdicts in cases related to the arson incident outside Rahat Bakery and another at Shadman police station.
According to the court’s decision, four leaders—Ijaz Chaudhry, Main Mehmood ur Rasheed, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, Ayesha Bhutta and Yasmeen Rashid—were each sentenced to 10 years in prison.
In a separate ruling, Alia Hamza and Sanam Javed were each handed a five-year sentence.
Conversely, the former foreign minister and senior leader, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, was acquitted of all charges in the case.
The verdict concludes a significant chapter in the legal proceedings following the events of May 9th. The sentences are subject to appeal in higher courts.
