Gilgit, Pakistan – August 4, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conducted a one-day visit to Gilgit-Baltistan today to personally assess the damage caused by recent floods and to oversee the ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations.
Upon his arrival at Gilgit Airport, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Governor Syed Mehdi Shah and Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, along with other senior provincial officials. He was briefed by Governor Shah on the flood situation and the critical challenges facing the region.
Accompanied by a delegation of federal ministers and advisers, Prime Minister Sharif is scheduled to meet with families affected by the floods and will distribute financial assistance. He will also review the progress of relief efforts, including the provision of essential supplies and the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure. A special prayer was offered for the victims who lost their lives in the disaster.
The Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson, Faizullah Faraq, welcomed the Prime Minister’s visit, noting that the region has suffered over Rs. 20 billion in damages and is in urgent need of federal assistance. The visit is being seen as a crucial step in demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting the local population during this challenging time.
