Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held a productive phone call with his German counterpart, Dr. Johann Wadephul, to discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues. The high-level contact underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen their cooperation.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties, and Cooperation
During the conversation, both leaders reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen the mutually beneficial bilateral relationship. The discussion highlighted the importance of continuous high-level contacts to foster closer cooperation. This commitment is supported by the recent €45 million technical cooperation agreement signed earlier this year, focusing on key sectors such as climate and energy, economic growth, employment, health, and social protection. The two nations have also been collaborating on building Pakistan’s carbon market infrastructure, reflecting a shared priority on climate action.
Discussions on Regional Issues
The Foreign Ministers exchanged views on regional issues, with a particular focus on the complex situation of Afghan refugees. The dialogue comes at a crucial time as both countries navigate the challenges related to the humanitarian relocation of vulnerable Afghans. Germany had recently paused its program, while Pakistan has continued its deportation of Afghan nationals. The call provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss their respective positions and the humanitarian concerns raised by rights groups and legal experts.

Reaffirmation of Defense, and Stability
In addition to the specific topics of development and refugee issues, the two governments have also consistently reaffirmed their cooperation on defense and regional stability through a series of high-level contacts throughout 2025. This multi-faceted engagement highlights the strategic importance of the Pakistan-Germany relationship.
Additional High-Level Engagements
In a separate development, Deputy Prime Minister Dar has been actively engaging with other key international partners. This week, he held meetings on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) extraordinary session, pledging to strengthen ties with Egypt and Algeria. During these meetings, he emphasized the need for closer connectivity and wider cooperation, while also discussing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
