Elon Musk, an American entrepreneur born in South Africa, is the CEO and founder of various famous companies like Tesla, SpaceX, and social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. From manufacturing electric vehicles to space rockets, Musk has done it all in the tech industry. His track record is a testament to his audacious and innovative ventures.
Now, Musk is aiming to make a mark in politics. He made an official entry into the political arena by supporting Donald Trump in the U.S. Presidential Elections of 2024, which marked the beginning of Trump 2.0. Elon Musk’s political career has been characterised by intriguing alliances, public spats, and seismic shifts.
After another fallout with U.S. President Trump, over the “One Big Beautiful Bill”—a budget legislation—Elon Musk announced the formation of his political party on the social media platform X.
By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!
When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.
Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom. https://t.co/9K8AD04QQN

The announcement of the creation of the America Party is a consequence of a long-brewing feud between U.S. President Trump and Elon Musk, stemming from conflicting personal ambitions, ideological leanings, and evolving dynamics in the American political landscape. Without a doubt, this move is going to cast ripples across the globe, besides America, in the distant future at least, if not immediately.
The Fallout between Elon Musk and Donald Trump
Elon Musk was the biggest donor of Donald Trump’s Presidential campaign of 2024, which saw him assume the presidency. BBC reported he was Trump’s key financial backer, and spent around 250 million USD to this effect. The Trump-Musk affinity was evident from the fact that Musk even led the Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE), meant to save the American national exchequer from unnecessary spending. Musk eventually left this role amid growing disagreements with the current U.S. President.
The feud between Trump and Musk has been brewing for a long time; both gentlemen openly criticised each other on the social media platform X, levelling allegations of all sorts.
In this fight, over X/Twitter, Elon Musk accused Donald Trump of not disclosing the Epstein Files due to his personal involvement in those offences. The Epstein Files contain incriminating information regarding the associates of Jeffrey Epstein, a child sex offender. Allegedly, the most notable names in these files are former U.S. President Bill Clinton and current President Donald Trump. These accusations against Trump have not yet been proved, but Elon Musk did not hold back.
He later deleted his posts against Donald Trump, admitting, “They went too far.” Among the deleted posts was the one accusing Trump of being an associate of Jeffry Epstein.
After the apologies and deletion of the respective, criticising and accusatory posts from both stakeholders, the dust settled. The truce between Donald Trump and Elon Musk lasted only for a couple of weeks as the world once again saw them conflicting over the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Elon Musk has been a vocal critic of this policy bill because he believes it will cause “immense strategic harm” to America by adding trillions of dollars to the country’s debt.
The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country!
Utterly insane and destructive. It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future. https://t.co/TZ9w1g7zHF

The intensify9ing rift between once very close allies, Donald Trump and Elon Musk, forced the latter to announce the formation of his party, namely, the America Party. Debatably, to put an end to the domination of two parties, Democrats and Republicans, in the American political landscape.
The America Party’s Core Principles
It is apparent from Elon Musk’s posts on his social media platform X that the America Party is born out of the need to gain “independence from the two-party system” he has imlpied dissatisfaction with the slow, ideological, and gridlocked nature of the Democratic and Republican parties. Thus, incapable of keeping up with the rapid advancements in technology and global challenges, this political initiative, undertaken by Elon Musk, is meant to fill in this perceived void.
Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system!
Should we create the America Party?

The disagreements between Donald Trump and Elon Musk grew because of the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” The latter had been opposing this bill, a significant budget reconciliation law passed by the 119th U.S. Congress. It permanently extends 2017 tax cuts, adds new tax breaks, and includes major spending cuts to social programs like Medicaid and food stamps. It also allocates substantial funds for border security, immigration enforcement, and defence, while rolling back clean energy initiatives.
Critics, most vocal among them Elon Musk, argue this bill will increase the national debt of the U.S., significantly harm the already vulnerable population, and disproportionately favour the wealthy. In another post, Elon Musk claimed, “The Big Ugly Bill will INCREASE the deficit to $2.5 trillion.” He critiqued both the Democrats and Republicans, even called them a unitary-party, when it comes to harming the national exchequer.
The final approval of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” was followed by the announcement of forming the America Party. It is evident AP aims to disrupt the traditional duopoly, or the two-party system, offering a platform to the voters who feel unrepresented by the majority parties. Piecing together the information gained from Elon Musk’s public statements and entrepreneurial initiative, it can be inferred that his focus will be on technological progress, innovation, and accountability.
The America Party, in a post on its official social media account on X, hinted towards its fundamental tenets:
“A new party led by someone who understands innovations, accountability and first principles thinking.”
Elon Musk forming the America Party is one of the most disruptive and needed political moves in modern U.S. history.
He’s not a career politician — he’s a builder. Someone who questions broken systems and actually fixes them.

Assessing America Party’s Chances
Now, the elephant in the room, what impact can the America Party have on the political landscape of the United States? Theoretically speaking, the America Party could participate in the upcoming 2026 mid-term elections to build momentum and test the waters. However, it is too soon to say how much impact the new party will have on the 2026 mid-term elections, or the presidential vote, taking place two years after that.
Elon Musk, after posting the poll, laid out a rough plan to kick off the political battle by focusing on the vulnerable seats in the House of Representatives and Senate. To become the deciding vote on key legislation. He posted on X, “One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts.”
Interestingly, after two years, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs; similarly, one-third of the Senate’s 100 members, serving six-year terms, are also elected after two years. Now it remains to be seen what the America Party can do to break the Republican-Democratic duopoly. Despite being the wealthiest man on this planet, breaking the U.S. political status quo, dominated by Republican-Democratic parties for more than 160 years, appears to be a mammoth task.
Beyond the Duopoly
The formation of the American Party marks a new chapter in American politics. The decision is fueled by a fallout between two former allies, Donald Trump and Elon Musk. The primary goal is to disrupt the two-party system and advocate for innovation, accountability, and fiscal responsibility. The way forward for the America Party is fraught with challenges because the establishment of a third party would mark the dismantling of the Republican-Democrats’ duopoly, which has persisted for more than a century.
Although Elon Musk has unfathomable wealth, it remains to be seen what impact the AP can make by focusing on the few seats in the House of Representatives and Senate, and will this be enough to reshape the legislative landscape of America or prove to be another bystander in the political arena?
The America Party has only been announced, via social media platform X, as of yet. It is still in its very nascent stages and lacks the full infrastructure of an established party, like a comprehensive website and detailed manifesto. Will this brain-child of Musk materialise and acheive have the same impact on the American landscape? It is a question open to speculation; only time can answer.
