Nation Pays Tribute to Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed on 67th Martyrdom Anniversary

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – August 8, 2025 – The President, Prime Minister, and Chief Minister of Punjab, along with the entire nation, have paid heartfelt tributes to Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed on his 67th martyrdom anniversary. He was a recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military honor.

Born in 1914, Major Tufail Muhammad was a brave soldier who embraced martyrdom on August 8, 1958, during the Battle of Lakshmipur in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). He was tasked with reclaiming the area, which had been illegally occupied by Indian forces. Despite being mortally wounded by a burst of machine-gun fire, he continued to lead his troops, throwing a hand grenade at a machine-gun post and forcing the enemy to retreat. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after, with his last words being, “I have completed my mission, the enemy has fled.”

President Asif Ali Zardari stated that Pakistan’s security is a direct result of the sacrifices made by heroes like Major Tufail, and that the nation will never forget their contributions. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed the country’s pride in its courageous armed forces, who are fearlessly facing the enemy on all fronts. Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi hailed Major Tufail’s act of valor as a timeless lesson in resolve and bravery. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also paid tribute to his courage, stating that his sacrifice is a significant chapter in the country’s defense history and a guide for the younger generation.

The commemoration serves as a powerful reminder of the nation’s profound gratitude for its military heroes and their unwavering dedication to protecting the country’s sovereignty and integrity.
