Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Awarded Azerbaijan’s Patriotic War Medal









RAWALPINDI – August 14, 2025 – First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, held a pivotal meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi today. The high-level meeting was a testament to the deep fraternal bonds and shared strategic interests between the two nations.

During the extensive discussions, both military leaders addressed a range of matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on the prevailing global and regional security landscape. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, on behalf of the Pakistan Army and the nation, reaffirmed Pakistan’s profound fraternal relations with Azerbaijan and underscored a strong resolve to further consolidate and expand bilateral ties across all domains. The COAS also extended heartfelt congratulations to his counterpart on the successful conclusion of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, a development both sides view as crucial for regional stability.

Medal Awarded to COAS

In a show of mutual respect and commendation, Colonel General Karim Valiyev lauded the exceptional professionalism and unwavering resolve of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He specifically praised their success in the military operations known as “Marka-e-Haq” and “Operation Bunyanum Marsoos,” which he recognized as significant achievements in the fight against terrorism. The visiting dignitary also extended his best wishes to the people of Pakistan for the nation’s upcoming Independence Day and Victory Celebrations, highlighting the strong solidarity between the two countries.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, in turn, expressed sincere gratitude to Azerbaijan’s leadership and its people for their steadfast support for Pakistan. He specifically thanked them for their solidarity during “Marka-e-Haq” and for sending an Azeri contingent to participate in the upcoming Independence Day ceremony, a gesture that further reinforces the enduring partnership.

On behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, Colonel General Karim Valiyev conferred upon Field Marshal Asim Munir Azerbaijan’s esteemed “Patriotic War Medal for Services in the Field of Military Cooperation.” This medal was awarded in recognition of Field Marshal Munir’s exceptional and instrumental contributions to the strengthening of bilateral military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. The visiting dignitary also used the opportunity to commend Pakistan’s unwavering efforts in combating terrorism and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s determination to enhance collaboration in defense and security matters. He conveyed his gratitude for the warm hospitality and steadfast support offered by Pakistan.

Following the ceremony, he paid tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes by laying a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
