Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet Approves Rs20 Billion for Flood Relief and Rehabilitation

Peshawar — The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Cabinet, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, convened its 37th meeting on Wednesday with a primary focus on accelerating relief and rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected communities across the province.

The session began with prayers for those who lost their lives in the recent floods, followed by a detailed briefing on human and material losses. Officials informed the cabinet that the first phase of rescue operations had concluded, with search operations for missing persons still underway.

Chief Minister Gandapur commended the district administration, Rescue 1122, and supporting departments for their swift and courageous response, stressing that their tireless work saved countless lives. He reassured victims that compensation payments were already in progress and pledged that “no affected family will be left behind.”

Rs20 Billion Supplementary Grant Approved

To ensure speedy recovery, the cabinet approved a supplementary grant of Rs20 billion for near-completion projects, while reallocating funds within sectors for efficient utilization. In addition, Rs2 million will be provided to the families of each deceased victim, and Rs0.5 million to those injured. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also been allocated Rs1 billion to roll out a “Food Stamp” program, offering Rs15,000 to each affected household.

Comprehensive Relief and Rehabilitation Plan

The Chief Minister directed urgent restoration of health facilities, supply of essential medicines, deployment of mobile hospitals, and preventive measures against potential epidemics. Orders were also issued for immediate repair of water supply schemes, tube wells, and damaged road networks. Special measures will be taken to provide fodder and veterinary care for livestock, alongside long-term compensation for damaged homes, livestock, and businesses.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Tribal Affairs), Abid Majid, presented district-wise data from Bajaur, Dir, Buner, Batagram, Mansehra, Swabi, Shangla, and Abbottabad, noting that 65% of cellular services had been restored, with full coverage expected shortly.

Broader Cabinet Decisions

Other approvals included Rs180 million in assistance for families of K-P Police martyrs and injured personnel, a compensation package for five martyred helicopter crew members, and Rs62.3 million for Seerat Conferences across the province. Land was also allocated for a new Rescue 1122 station in Bajaur, alongside Rs1.38 billion for the Kumbar Bypass Road project in Lower Dir.

The cabinet further approved Rs20 million for medical assistance to former MPA Shaukat Yousafzai, underscoring its commitment to both emergency relief and broader provincial welfare.
