Jaffar Express Derails in Mastung District Following Railway Track Blast

Aug 12, 2025 | Latest News, Terrorism

QUETTA, PAKISTAN – August 12, 2025 – An explosion on a railway track in Balochistan’s Mastung district on Sunday led to the derailment of six bogies of the Jaffar Express. While the blast damaged the train’s locomotive and several coaches, officials have confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries reported.

The incident occurred near Spezant in Dasht Tehsil when a locally manufactured explosive device, planted on the track, detonated as the passenger train was passing. The force of the explosion caused the engine and five coaches to come off the rails, bringing the train to a sudden halt.

Rescue teams and railway staff were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist in the evacuation and ensure the safety of all passengers. In the wake of the attack, security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive search operation to apprehend those responsible.

This latest attack highlights the persistent security challenges in the region. The Jaffar Express, a vital link between Quetta and Rawalpindi, has been the target of similar attacks in recent months. Authorities have initiated a formal investigation and have temporarily suspended train services from Balochistan to other parts of the country while security measures are being heightened across the region.
