SANTIAGO, CHILE – August 11, 2025 – Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in Santiago, Chile, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Saturday, demanding government action against Israel. The protests, organized in solidarity with Palestinians, called for an end to what demonstrators described as a humanitarian crisis in Gaza and urged their governments to impose sanctions on Israel.
Protesters, including representatives from human rights organizations, marched while chanting slogans such as “Stop the genocide.” In both cities, activists specifically called on their respective governments to sever diplomatic ties with Israel and condemn its military actions.
The demonstrations took place as international criticism grows over the situation in Gaza, where aid groups have warned of widespread displacement and a looming famine. One protester in Chile highlighted the issue, stating that Israel is “starving the Palestinian people,” a situation she described as a “war crime, a crime against humanity, and an act of genocide.” The organized protests underscore a rising call in Latin America for a more assertive political response to the ongoing conflict.
