Israeli Military Conducts Powerful Strikes on Houthi Targets in Yemen

Sep 26, 2025 | Latest News, Global Affairs

The Israeli military announced today that its air force has executed its “most powerful strike” to date in Yemen, targeting key military and intelligence assets of the Houthi movement. The operation was launched in response to the Houthis’ persistent drone and missile attacks on Israeli territory.

Military Operation Details

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that dozens of its aircraft were involved in the operation, which targeted multiple Houthi-controlled sites in the capital, Sanaa. According to the IDF, the strikes hit the Houthi military’s General Staff Command Headquarters, security and intelligence compounds, a “military public relations headquarters,” and various military camps used for weapons storage.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed the action on X, stating that Israel had “delivered a powerful strike on numerous terror targets of the Houthi terror organisation in Sanaa.”

Houthi Response and Casualties

The Houthi-run government’s health ministry condemned the strikes as a “brutal crime,” claiming that civilian facilities and residential buildings were hit. According to the ministry’s spokesman, Dr. Anees al-Asbahi, the attacks resulted in eight deaths and 142 injuries, including civilians. First responders are reportedly continuing to search for casualties under the rubble.

The Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV reported that the strikes targeted residential areas in the Maain and Sabaeen districts, as well as the Dhahban power station, and posted photographs showing destroyed and damaged buildings.

Context of the Escalation

The Israeli strikes came a day after a Houthi drone attack on the Israeli Red Sea resort of Eilat injured 22 people, two of them seriously. The IDF acknowledged the attack, noting that an inquiry revealed the drone was “detected relatively late,” leading to an unsuccessful interception by the Iron Dome air defense system. The IDF stated that the cause of the failure had been identified and “corrective measures were implemented.”

Since the war between Israel and Hamas began in October 2023, the Houthis have consistently launched missiles and drones towards Israel and have also targeted international shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The Houthis maintain that their actions are in support of the Palestinians. The IDF has previously conducted numerous retaliatory strikes in Yemen, with the Houthis claiming that a recent attack on September 10 killed 35 people, including 31 journalists.
