Lahore, Pakistan – In a landmark development poised to transform Pakistan’s higher education landscape, Arizona State University (ASU) is partnering with Pakistan to establish the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Lahore. This initiative will be the first physical campus presence of a U.S. university in the country, offering an American-standard curriculum to a new generation of students.
Led by Shahzeb Awan and Jahanzeb Burana, the new institute is set to open its doors in Fall 2025. It will feature two key academic divisions: the School of Management Sciences and the School of Data Sciences and Information Technology. The partnership, formally agreed upon at ASU’s Tempe campus in April 2025, aims to cultivate a student-centric learning environment that equips graduates with the skills necessary for the global job market.
A significant benefit for students will be the opportunity to earn dual degrees from both ASU and NIT, along with access to international exchange and study abroad programs through ASU’s global network.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has lauded the project as a “transformative step” for the country’s education sector, anticipating that the establishment of NIT will create new academic and employment opportunities, and elevate Pakistan’s standing in the international academic community.
