Kuwait Summons Iranian Envoy After Drone Strike on International Airport

Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Iranian Ambassador, Mohammad Toutounchi, to formally protest a targeted drone attack on Kuwait International Airport. The strike, which occurred during a massive wave of Iranian retaliatory operations, caused minor injuries to several employees and inflicted limited damage on a passenger terminal. Kuwaiti officials condemned the act as a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law,” emphasizing that civilian infrastructure must remain off-limits during military conflicts.

The incident in Kuwait is part of a broader regional escalation following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iranian soil on February 28. In addition to Kuwait, several other Gulf nations; including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE, reported being targeted by Iranian missiles or drones. In Bahrain, a residential high-rise was struck, while the UAE reported at least one death from falling interceptor debris. These coordinated strikes by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) appear to be aimed at both U.S. military assets and the civilian hubs of nations hosting American forces.

As the diplomatic rift between Tehran and its neighbors deepens, Kuwait has joined a growing list of Arab states demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities. The targeting of one of the region’s busiest transit points has further paralyzed Middle Eastern aviation, with Kuwaiti authorities now coordinating closely with regional partners to bolster air defenses. For now, the airport remains under heightened security as investigators assess the full extent of the damage.
