Prime Minister of Pakistan held a meeting with Uganda’s candidate for UN Secretary-General, Ambassador Olara Otunnu in Islamabad. Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and United Nation’s role in maintaining global peace and security.

The statement issued by Prime Minister Office stated that discussions revolved around:
- Adherence to the principles of the UN Charter.
- Respect for international law.
- Core priorities expected of the next UN Chief.
Prime Minister Sharif stated that incoming UN Secretary General should have a balanced, interconnected approach across the foundational pillars of UN i.e., peace, security, economic development and human rights.
Ambassador Otunnu expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s historic and ongoing contributions to international peacekeeping and multilateral diplomacy. Otunnu is a veteran diplomat and has served as the UN Secretary General previously, he was accompanied by Ruhakana Rugunda, Special Envoy of the Ugandan President.
Other key officials from Pakistan were also present in this meeting including, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch.
