The State Department of United States on Friday approved the sale of ammunition, bombs, guidance kits, and related military equipment to Saudi Arabia. The deal for the purchase of ammunition and other items listed above is potential around 5 billion USD. The purchase of weapons from US comes in the backdrop of regional tensions with the intention of enhancing of Kingdom’s defense.
US has approved a $5bn sale of bombs, guidance kits and equipment to Saudi Arabia, repeatedly attacked during the US-Israel war on Iran.
The State Department said the sale would boost Saudi air defence and strengthen homeland security.

As per the information by State Department, the proposed package includes: thousands of guidance kits, bombs, fuzes, target detectors, spare parts, and technical assistance, with Boeing named as the principal contractor. The purpose of this deal is to enhance Saudi Arabia’s airborne and homeland defense infrastructure keeping in view the current threats and the possible threats that could arise in the future. It also improves interoperability between the Gulf partners and US forces.
The announcement of this deal between US-Saudi Arabia comes amid the threats of drone and missile strikes from Iran, and Tehran-backed Houthi rebels subsequent the outbreak of conflict between Iran and US-Israel. The State Department has notified the Congress of the potential sale, however, it is yet to be approved legislatively before the execution of the final contract.
