Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause, informing the UN Security Council that the realization of a sovereign Palestinian state through a credible, time-bound political process is the only path to lasting regional stability.

The Central Objective
Speaking at a Security Council open debate on Wednesday, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized that the establishment of an “independent, sovereign, and contiguous state of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital,” remains the ultimate goal supported by the international community.
Ambassador Ahmad asserted that the unresolved Palestinian question lies at the heart of Middle East instability, citing decades of occupation, dispossession, and the denial of the inalienable right to self-determination.

Crisis in Gaza and Diplomatic Engagement
Addressing the catastrophic situation in Gaza, the Ambassador noted that the escalation over the past two years has reached an unprecedented scale. He highlighted:
- Humanitarian Deprivation: Widespread civilian casualties and the near-total destruction of vital infrastructure.
- Diplomatic Support: Pakistan welcomed renewed diplomatic efforts, including the High-Level Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Peace Plan endorsed by Security Council Resolution 2803.
- Reconstruction and Recovery: Pakistan underscored that the second phase of current diplomatic plans must secure a permanent cessation of hostilities and prepare the ground for reconstruction and self-determination.
Support for Stabilization Measures
Pakistan, as part of the Arab and Islamic countries in the Group of Eight, expressed its support for the “Board of Peace” under Resolution 2803. Furthermore, Ambassador Ahmad conveyed Pakistan’s willingness to participate in the proposed Gaza Stabilisation Force, a multinational initiative aimed at stabilizing the territory post-ceasefire.
Condemnation of Violations
The Ambassador voiced deep concern over persistent ceasefire violations and the risk to civilian lives. Islamabad strongly condemned Israeli actions against UN facilities, specifically the demolition of a UN compound in Sheikh Jarrah. He stressed that the operations of UNRWA remain essential and must be protected from political or physical interference.
Immediate Priorities for Durable Peace
Pakistan outlined several critical priorities for the Security Council:
- Full Respect for Ceasefire: Ensuring an immediate end to hostilities.
- Reconstruction: Beginning recovery efforts in Gaza without delay.
- Prevention of Annexation: Opposing forced displacement or any alteration of the territorial integrity of Palestinian lands.
- Accountability: Halting illegal settlement activity and ensuring accountability for violations of international law.
Ambassador Ahmad concluded by reaffirming that Pakistan’s solidarity with the Palestinian people “remains firm and unwavering,” calling on the Security Council to ensure that diplomatic efforts deliver concrete, measurable results.
