Deputy PM Ishaq Dar Calls for Regional De-escalation in High-Level Talks with US and Türkiye

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar intensified Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach on Monday, holding critical discussions with senior U.S. and Turkish officials. Amidst the sharpening conflict in the Middle East and Southwest Asia, the DPM underscored that constructive dialogue remains the only viable pathway to restoring regional stability.

The high-level engagements come as Pakistan seeks to balance its strategic interests while advocating for a humanitarian pause and a shift away from military escalation.

Strategic Engagement with the United States

DPM Ishaq Dar met with U.S. Acting Chargé d’Affaires Zachary Harkenrider at the Foreign Office to review the rapidly evolving security landscape.

  • Bilateral Focus: The meeting centered on strengthening Pakistan-US relations and addressing “issues of mutual interest” amidst the regional crisis.

  • Promoting Peace: Minister Dar emphasized the “urgent need” to promote peace and stability, urging the international community to prioritize diplomatic engagement over further kinetic action.

Telephonic Coordination with Türkiye

In a separate diplomatic move, the Deputy Prime Minister held a telephonic conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

  • Shared Concern: Both leaders expressed “serious concern” over the rising tensions and the potential for the conflict to spill over into broader regional instability.

  • The Call for De-escalation: Minister Dar underscored that de-escalation is a non-negotiable priority. He reiterated that diplomacy is the most effective tool to resolve complex geopolitical issues and mitigate the humanitarian impact of the ongoing wars.

Pakistan’s Diplomatic Stance

The Foreign Office clarified that Pakistan’s current focus is on maintaining open channels of communication with all major regional and global stakeholders.

  • Constructive Dialogue: The DPM’s message to both Washington and Ankara was consistent: military solutions are temporary, whereas “constructive dialogue and diplomacy” provide the only long-term framework for peace.

  • Regional Stability: As a key regional player, Pakistan is positioning itself as a voice for restraint, particularly as energy prices and maritime security remain under threat.
