Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar represented Pakistan at the 29th Meeting of the ECO Council of Ministers (COM), held virtually under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan.
In the 29th ECO-COM meeting held today, Pakistan, under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar @MIshaqDar50, was elected to assume the Chairmanship of the ECO Council of Ministers (COM) for 2026-2027.

In his address, DPM/FM Dar congratulated Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan H.E. Yermek Kosherbayev on successfully hosting the meeting, and commended outgoing Chair H.E. Seyyed Abbas Araghchi of Iran and ECO Secretary General Ambassador Dr. Asad M. Khan for their leadership in advancing the organisation’s agenda.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to ECO Vision 2025, the Deputy Prime Minister announced that, as incoming Chair of the Council of Ministers, Pakistan will work closely with all ten member states to finalise and adopt the ECO Vision 2026–2035 for deeper economic integration and sustainable prosperity.

He identified seamless regional connectivity as Pakistan’s top priority, calling for:
- Full operationalisation of the Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul Rail Corridor and the Eurasian Multimodal Corridor
- New railway linkages connecting Central Asia with Pakistan via Afghanistan
- Harmonisation of customs procedures and alignment of transport regimes
- Accelerated progress on sustainable transport, climate-resilient infrastructure, and digital connectivity
DPM Dar highlighted the successful ECO Regional Conference of Transport Ministers hosted by Pakistan in Islamabad in October 2025 and Pakistan’s liberalised visa regime that now grants visa-on-arrival/e-visa facilities to nationals of 126 countries, including all ECO members.
He urged collective action against terrorism, which continues to undermine regional trade and investment, and stressed the need for enhanced cooperation in transit trade and border management.
Expressing gratitude to member states for designating Lahore as ECO Tourism Capital for 2027, the Deputy Prime Minister extended a warm invitation to all ECO foreign ministers to attend the 30th ECO Council of Ministers Meeting in Pakistan in 2026.
Pakistan remains fully committed to transforming the ECO region into a vibrant hub of trade, investment, and people-to-people contacts.
