Speaking at the United Nations Security Council briefing on the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, stressed that military posturing and unilateral actions only deepen mistrust and suffering.

“The people of Abyei have endured uncertainty for far too long. Sustainable peace can only be achieved when Khartoum and Juba sit together, in good faith, and address the root causes through dialogue,” Ambassador Jadoon said.
He welcomed the continued presence of UNISFA, which Pakistan proudly contributes to with over 600 peacekeepers, and praised the mission’s role in protecting civilians and facilitating humanitarian access.
Ambassador Jadoon reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding position that the final status of Abyei must be determined through the 2011 Agreement and the 2009 ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, with full respect for local communities’ aspirations.
“Pakistan remains ready to support every effort—bilateral, regional, or multilateral—that brings the two Sudans back to the negotiating table,” he concluded.
Pakistan has consistently advocated peaceful resolution of the Abyei question and continues to rank among the largest troop-contributing countries to UNISFA since its inception in 2011.
