Swat, Pakistan – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Federal Ministers and COAS Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Pakistan Army, visited the flood-ravaged districts of Swat, Buner, Shangla, and Swabi on Wednesday to assess ongoing rescue and relief operations.

During the visit, COAS Syed Asim Munir received detailed briefings on the scale of destruction caused by torrential rains and flash floods, as well as the operational measures being taken by the Pakistan Army in coordination with civil administration. Addressing troops, police personnel, and rescue teams on the ground, the Army Chief lauded their selfless service and unwavering resolve in providing relief to the affected population despite challenging conditions.

“The safety, dignity, and relief of our fellow citizens are the foremost priority of the Pakistan Army,” said COAS Munir, directing formations deployed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to work with utmost devotion and dedication. He stressed that no effort should be spared in reaching remote and cut-off communities, ensuring timely delivery of food, shelter, and medical aid to those in dire need.
Interacting with flood victims alongside the Prime Minister, the COAS reassured families that the Pakistan Army stands shoulder to shoulder with them in this hour of trial. He emphasized that the Armed Forces will remain on the ground until normalcy is restored, underscoring the Army’s long-standing tradition of serving the nation beyond the call of duty during natural calamities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also addressed the victims, praising the tireless contributions of the Army, police, and civil administration. He directed full mobilization of national resources to accelerate recovery efforts while drawing attention to the dangers of illegal encroachments, timber mafia activities, and unregulated mining/crushing operations in waterways that exacerbate flood destruction. The Prime Minister urged strict enforcement of the law, stating that Pakistan must act as a “hard state” where accountability applies equally to all.
Earlier, the Prime Minister and COAS jointly offered Fateha for those who lost their lives in the catastrophe, reaffirming their solidarity with grieving families.
The visit reflected the unified resolve of civil and military leadership to provide immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation support to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reinforcing the Army’s pivotal role in disaster response and national resilience.
