Pakistan and Germany Strengthen Climate-Energy Partnership with €114 Million Boost

Pakistan and Germany today reaffirmed their rock-solid commitment to deepen the Pakistan-Germany Climate and Energy Partnership, announcing a fresh €114 million in financial and technical support for the current fiscal year.

During delegation-level talks at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Secretary Muhammad Humair Karim and Germany’s Director-General for Economic Cooperation and Development, Christine Toetzke, agreed to supercharge collaboration across four key pillars:

  • Climate action and renewable energy
  • Vocational training and youth employment
  • Social protection and poverty alleviation
  • Disaster risk reduction and resilience

“Germany stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Pakistan as it tackles climate change, drives green growth, and builds a future where no one is left behind,” said Ms Toetzke. She praised Pakistan’s bold economic reforms and its leadership in mainstreaming climate resilience.

Secretary Karim thanked Germany for its unwavering partnership, noting that the new €114 million package—comprising grants and concessional loans—will directly fund flagship projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh, including solar mini-grids, flood-resilient infrastructure, and skills centres for 50,000 young Pakistanis.

Since the Partnership’s launch in 2021, Germany has committed over €500 million, making it one of Pakistan’s largest bilateral partners in the fight against climate change.

Today’s announcement sends a clear message: when Pakistan and Germany join hands, green jobs are created, communities become flood-proof, and a cleaner, fairer future moves within reach.
