The court’s decision involves two concurrent sentences for both individuals:
- Section 409: Ten years of rigorous imprisonment.
- Section 5(2)47 (Prevention of Corruption Act): Seven years of imprisonment.
The Toshakhana-2 case pertains to allegations involving the misuse of authority and the unauthorized handling of expensive gifts received from foreign dignitaries. The prosecution argued that the defendants violated the Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code by failing to adhere to the legal protocols governing the state repository (Toshakhana).
The sentencing by Judge Shahrukh Arjumand marks a critical development in the ongoing legal challenges faced by the PTI leadership. Legal representatives for the PTI founder and his spouse have indicated their intention to challenge the verdict in a higher court, maintaining that the proceedings were politically motivated.
Authorities have confirmed that the sentence will be implemented in accordance with the jail manual and relevant judicial orders.
