Barrister Iftikhar Ali Gillani Sworn in as AJK Prime Minister









Barrister Syed Iftikhar Ali Gillani, of PML-N, has taken oath as the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). He won 30 votes in the Legislative Assembly meanwhile his PPP rival, Sardar Mukhtar Ahmed Abbasi, won only 14 votes. Acting President Chaudhry Tariq Farooq took oath at the presidency in Muzaffarabad.

Legislative Assembly has a total of 46 members, out of which 44 votes were cast, Gillani secured 30 votes. The elections on the seven vacant seats in Poonch and Sudhnoti are expected to be held soon. The elections on these seats will bring the strength of the house to full 53 members.

Newly elected Prime Minister AJK announced zero tolerance for corruption, merit-based public recruitment, digital economy expansion, private sector job creation for youth, and launch of a portal to address public grievances called, “Bolo Kashmir.”

Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin was notified as the opposition leader by Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq under Rule 17(1) of the Assembly Rules of Procedure.
