Despite Trump’s social media announcement late Friday that both nations had agreed to “cease shooting effective this evening,” Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul publicly rejected the truce, stating that no ceasefire would be possible until Cambodia withdrew all its forces and removed landmines.
On Saturday, the fighting escalated, with Cambodia reporting being struck by Thai F-16 fighter jets that bombed civilian infrastructure, while Thailand reported four of its soldiers killed, bringing its military death toll since Monday to 15. The long-running conflict, rooted in disputes over a colonial-era 1907 map, has forced the displacement of approximately 700,000 people on both sides of the frontier.
