Fifa introduces $60 “Supporter Entry Tier” Amid Growing 2026 World Cup Outcry

In a significant but limited response to global backlash, FIFA announced on December 16, 2025, the introduction of a new $60 Supporter Entry Tier for all 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup. The move follows intense criticism from fan advocacy groups like Football Supporters Europe, which labeled initial costs, some reaching over $4,000 for the final, as a monumental betrayal of the sport’s traditions. While the $60 tier aims to restore a level of affordability, the scope remains narrow.

These discounted seats comprise only 10% of the ticket allotment granted to Participating Member Associations, effectively representing just 1.6% of a stadium’s total capacity per match. Consequently, for a high-demand group stage fixture, only a few hundred loyal supporters from each nation will likely secure this pricing.

The revised structure ensures that half of a national federation’s allocation now falls within more affordable brackets, with 40% dedicated to the Supporter Value Tier and 10% to the new Entry Tier. However, critics describe the shift as an appeasement tactic that fails to address the lack of provisions for disabled fans or the steep price jumps in general categories.

Advocacy leaders noted that while a lucky few might pay $60, a fan in the same section could still face costs fifteen times higher under FIFA’s controversial dynamic pricing model. Despite these concerns, interest remains unprecedented, with over 20 million ticket requests already logged during the current sales phase.
