Pakistan a Key Mediator Between US and Iran, Says Former Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi

Former Pakistani ambassador to the United Nations and the United States, Maleeha Lodhi, has highlighted Pakistan’s unique position as a mediator between the United States and Iran.

In her remarks, Lodhi pointed out that Islamabad maintains excellent relations with both Washington and Tehran, which gives it credibility and access to facilitate dialogue. She also noted Pakistan’s proven track record in mediation, particularly its central role in the Doha Agreement between the US and the Taliban, which paved the way for the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“Pakistan brings its experience, its current bilateral ties, and its geopolitical position to the table as a mediator,” she said.

Lodhi added that in today’s rapidly changing world, countries like Pakistan are demonstrating their ability to play a meaningful role on the global stage and influence international politics.

Her comments come as Pakistan continues to actively facilitate back-channel contacts and host talks aimed at de-escalating the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran.
