Israeli tanks opened fire along Gaza’s coastal Al-Rashid Street on Friday, just hours before the Israeli cabinet was expected to finalize approval of a ceasefire agreement aimed at halting hostilities in the enclave.
Live footage from the area showed tanks firing south along the coastal road, reportedly to prevent civilians from moving north toward Gaza City, which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) ordered evacuated last month.

In a statement to CNN, the IDF said its units were using smoke bombs “to keep people away from our forces,” denying that the shelling targeted civilians.
The Gaza Civil Defense issued an urgent public warning, advising residents in southern Gaza not to move or return north until an official announcement confirms that Israeli forces have withdrawn and the road is safe.
“Occupation forces remain present in a number of dangerous areas, and random movement could place citizens’ lives at severe risk,”
the Civil Defense said in its statement.
The Hamas-controlled Interior Ministry in Gaza also called on civilians to remain cautious during the “final hours before the ceasefire,” emphasizing that the main road connecting northern and southern Gaza remains blocked.
“We call on citizens to wait for the official announcement confirming the start of the ceasefire,” the ministry added.
Meanwhile, medical officials in Gaza City reported that one person was killed and seven others wounded in an Israeli airstrike earlier in the day. Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Hospital, confirmed the casualties.
Video obtained by CNN showed civil defense teams and ambulances in Gaza’s port area celebrating the expected ceasefire, even as sporadic Israeli military activity continued along the coast.
The ceasefire agreement, brokered through international mediation, is expected to take effect once formally endorsed by Israel’s cabinet later today.
