Pakistan and Egypt Boost Strategic Ties with Focus on Trade and Security

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty concluded a key two-day official visit to Pakistan, signaling a major push to elevate the strategic partnership between the two nations. The visit, which included meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, reaffirmed deep-rooted ties and a shared commitment to regional stability.

The core focus was on economic revival. Minister Dar announced that Pakistan would share a “white list” of 250 top Pakistani business houses with Egypt to fast-track commercial engagement and address visa hurdles, aiming to boost the currently modest bilateral trade of around $300 million. This initial list will be expanded to 500 businesses within three months. Both sides also agreed to establish a Pakistan-Egypt Business Council and Forum, with the first Forum meeting slated for Cairo in the second quarter of 2026.

In the security realm, both countries agreed to intensify coordination to counter cross-border terrorism and extremism. Egypt offered to share its successful holistic approach, including the intellectual and spiritual resources of Al-Azhar al-Sharif to combat extremist ideology.

Other decisions included holding high-level political consultations and a Joint Ministerial Commission in 2026, marking the first JMC meeting in 15 years.
