The Government of Punjab has launched a Rs3 billion programme to deploy 30 state-of-the-art fog cannons mounted on electric trucks to combat worsening smog and air pollution across major cities and industrial hubs. The battery-powered vehicles are equipped with high-capacity misting systems designed to suppress dust and reduce hazardous particulate matter in the air.
Officials said the fog cannons will be stationed in high-risk urban and industrial zones as part of a broader clean air and climate resilience agenda aimed at improving environmental protection across the province.

Lahore Air Improvement Framework
In a parallel initiative, Rs2.25 billion has been allocated under the Lahore Air Improvement Framework to implement an integrated clean air strategy in the provincial capital, Lahore. A new “super station” air monitoring system will allow authorities to identify pollution sources in real time, a first for the city. The government is also introducing a “One City, One Policy” model to standardise air quality management and ensure stronger governance.
Province-Wide Monitoring and Enforcement
Across Punjab, more than 50 advanced air quality monitoring units have already been installed, supported by an automated quality control system to improve transparency and data accuracy. A digital surveillance system will enhance oversight of industrial emissions.

While environmental laboratories will be upgraded with modern testing and forensic equipment. An Environment and Climate Delivery Unit will also be established to track progress through a digital dashboard and ensure environmental targets are met effectively.
