Netflix is eliminating the ability for users to cast shows from their mobile devices (phones or tablets) to many newer televisions and streaming media players. The move forces users to rely exclusively on the remote control for the TV or streaming device to navigate and select content within the Netflix application.

According to a company help page, casting support is reportedly ending for devices like Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamers, and televisions running on Android TV. This discontinuation has already been noticed by some users since mid-November.
However, Netflix confirmed that casting should still function with older Chromecast devices and TVs that support Google Cast, but this limited functionality is only available to users who subscribe to an ad-free plan.

This change is viewed as a disappointing reduction in convenience for many users, as casting often provides a faster and easier way to search for content or quickly scrub through a video than using a standard TV remote. Netflix previously removed support for Apple’s AirPlay in 2019, citing “technical limitations.” The company has not yet provided an official explanation for winding down mobile casting support on these newer devices.
