Trump Appointed Erika Kirk to Air Force Academy Board to Continue Late Husband’s Work

President Donald Trump has officially appointed Erika Kirk to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors, a 16-member body responsible for overseeing the institution’s morale, curriculum, and financial affairs. The appointment, confirmed by the White House on March 10, 2026, places the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in a role previously held by her husband before his death. White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales stated that Erika Kirk—a Liberty University law graduate and former Miss Arizona USA—will serve as a “fearless advocate” for the service, carrying forward her husband’s focus on institutional transparency and traditional American values.

During his tenure on the board, Charlie Kirk was a vocal critic of certain academic frameworks, specifically inquiring how the Academy complied with executive orders regarding Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. He frequently challenged staff on whether the curriculum promoted “oppressor/oppressed dynamics” or “gender ideology,” arguing instead for a focus on Western heritage and American exceptionalism. He was also instrumental in advocating for the expedited renovation of the Academy’s iconic Cadet Chapel, criticizing the projected nine-year timeline for repairs.

As a presidential appointee, Erika Kirk will serve a minimum of three years on the board. Her role allows her to request detailed internal information to help formulate semiannual reports and recommendations directly for the President and the Secretary of War. Her appointment comes at a time of significant political focus on the military’s educational standards, with just two seats now remaining vacant on the 16-person board.
