US-Brokered Gaza Truce Under Severe Stress Amid Escalating Fatalities and Aid Restrictions

Oct 21, 2025 | Latest News, Global Affairs

The fragile US-brokered ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which came into effect on October 10, is facing profound threats to its continuation, according to field reports. Since the truce began, nearly 100 Palestinians have been killed and 230 wounded by Israeli military actions, despite the agreement intended to end hostilities.

The escalation followed an Israeli claim on Sunday that Hamas fighters had violated the agreement in the Rafah area, triggering a subsequent “massive and extensive wave” of strikes across Gaza. Gaza’s Government Media Office asserts that Israel has violated the deal at least 80 times, including fatal attacks on civilian vehicles. Hamas has denied initiating clashes and cited the immense volume of rubble created by Israeli bombardment as the chief obstacle to the timely recovery and return of all deceased captives’ bodies.

Critical conditions of the truce, including the immediate lifting of the blockade and the provision of humanitarian aid, remain unfulfilled. Israel has restricted aid entry, allowing only half the agreed-upon number of trucks, while the imposition of an “invisible yellow line” has created fear and prevented the displaced population from safely returning home.

Despite the mounting fatalities and lack of adherence to key terms, U.S. officials maintain that the ceasefire is technically still in effect. However, the ongoing violence, coupled with severe scarcity of food and resources, indicates that the truce has failed to deliver peace or adequate aid to the besieged enclave.
