The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy demanded that Energy Minister, Svitlana Grynchuk, and Justice Minister, Herman Halushchenko, resign immediately. The resignation from these individuals, holding important governmental positions, was demanded in light of the revelations made by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO). The investigations, spanning over 15 months, unearthed embezzlement of $100 Million in the energy sector.
According to NABU, Zelensky’s close friend and “wallet” Tymur Mindych exercised corrupt influence not only over Justice Minister Halushchenko and Energy Minister Hrynchuk, but also over Defense Minister @rustem_umerov.

The investigations involved intercepted communication, of 1000 hours, between various concerned government officials. It was further revealed that these officials and their allies systematically collected 10-15% kickbacks from the contractors working for state-owned nuclear operator Enerhoatom, and companies building protective fortification around the energy infrastructure.
The government officials implicated in the investigation findings include:
- Former Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov.
- Businessman Timur Mindich, co-owner of President Zelenskyy’s former production company Kvartal 95 (reportedly now outside Ukraine).
- Individuals linked to an office in Kyiv associated with the family of former Ukrainian lawmaker and current Russian senator Andriy Derkach.
The NABU investigations revealed the embezzled funds were laundered and transferred abroad, even to Russia. President Zelenskyy stated these allegations were unacceptable, and no on even the government officials—holding important positions or having past merits—were above the law. The President further directed the Cabinet Ministers to initiate the formal dismissal proceedings against the aforementioned individuals, without any delay.

Energy Minister Grynchuk stated on social media: “Within the scope of my professional activities there were no violations of the law.” Whereas, the Justice-Minister, Halushchenko, vowed to defend himself in the court against the accusations.
The scandal was unearthed in the backdrop of the war against Russia, and intensified Russian strikes on power grids and nuclear facilities. Zelenskyy’s strong stance demonstrates unwavering commitment for anti-corruptions reform, and highlights the effectiveness and independence of NABU and SAPO. More information is expected to be revealed in further investigations.
