President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a stark warning that Ukraine faces a looming shortage of critical missiles and air defense resources as the war in Iran enters its third week. Speaking to the BBC, Zelensky explained that a prolonged conflict in the Middle East directly benefits Vladimir Putin by depleting Western military reserves and diverting the attention of global manufacturers. He noted that the “depletion of resources” in the United States and Europe, coupled with rising energy prices, creates a strategic disadvantage for Kyiv. Zelensky expressed a “very bad feeling” about the situation, stating that essential peace negotiations for Ukraine are being repeatedly postponed because of the intensity of the Iranian crisis.

During a visit to London, Zelensky addressed British MPs, labeling the Russian and Iranian regimes as “brothers in hatred and weapons.” In response, Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that the international community must not allow Putin to benefit from the Middle East turmoil, whether through increased oil prices or the loosening of sanctions. To support Ukraine’s technical edge, the UK announced a new £500,000 “AI centre of excellence” in Kyiv to study battlefield advantages. Meanwhile, the U.S. has reportedly eased some restrictions on Russian oil to stabilize global supplies following Iranian retaliatory strikes on Gulf assets. Zelensky has also dispatched over 200 Ukrainian experts to the Middle East to share expertise in countering Iranian-made drones.
