On December 19, 2025, veteran Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the highly anticipated “iPhone Fold,” Apple’s first smartphone with a flexible, folding screen, is officially slated for a late 2026 release. While the device has been a long-rumored secret in the tech world, Kuo warned that consumers might face a frustrating wait.

Due to significant manufacturing hurdles and low “yield rates” (the number of screens that actually pass quality tests), Apple is struggling to build the units fast enough to meet what is expected to be massive global demand.

Current supply chain data suggests that while the phone will be announced in the second half of 2026, it likely won’t be widely available until 2027. This mirrors the shortages seen with the iPhone 14 Pro, where many buyers were unable to find stock for months after the initial launch. Kuo also hinted that besides the limited supply, the sheer cost of the new technology means the iPhone Fold will likely arrive with a premium price tag that may be out of reach for many.
