Field Marshal Asim Munir Vows to Eliminate Terrorists ‘Wherever They May Be’

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir has reiterated Pakistan’s unyielding resolve to eliminate terrorist infrastructure “wherever they may be.” Speaking during a high-level interaction with Ulema in Rawalpindi on Thursday, the Field Marshal emphasized that while Pakistan seeks regional de-escalation, it will not tolerate violence or the exploitation of religious sentiments to incite unrest.

The address coincides with the official commencement of a strategic “temporary pause” in Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq, a gesture of good faith for the holy month, following mediation by “brotherly Islamic countries.”

Strategic Pause: Midnight March 18 to March 23

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that military operations against the Afghan Taliban will be suspended from midnight March 18-19 until midnight March 23-24 in view of Eidul Fitr.

  • Conditional Ceasefire: The pause is strictly conditional. “In case of any cross-border attack, drone strike, or terrorist incident, Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq shall immediately resume with renewed intensity,” the Minister warned.

  • Taliban Response: Shortly after Islamabad’s announcement, the Afghan Taliban also declared a temporary suspension of their military operations against Pakistan.

  • Operation Tally: Since the launch of the operation on February 26, Pakistan has neutralized 707 militants, injured 938, and destroyed 255 posts. Additionally, 237 tanks and armored vehicles have been decimated across 81 targeted locations.

COAS Address to Ulema: Countering Narrative Warfare

Field Marshal Asim Munir underscored the vital role of religious scholars in maintaining national cohesion during the ongoing US-Israel-Iran war:

  • No Imported Violence: The COAS stated categorically that “violence in Pakistan, on the basis of incidents occurring in another country, will not be tolerated.”

  • Afghan Soil: He sent a clear message to the Afghan Taliban regime to prevent the use of their territory for terrorism against Pakistan.

  • Misinformation Defense: The Ulema were urged to strengthen unity and counter “externally sponsored destabilization efforts” and sectarian narratives designed to weaken the state.

Regional De-escalation & Proactive Diplomacy

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted Pakistan’s dual-track strategy of military readiness and diplomatic engagement:

  • Global Conflict: The Field Marshal briefed the participants on Pakistan’s proactive diplomacy aimed at seeking de-escalation in the broader Middle East conflict.

  • Unity Against Extremism: The participants expressed wholehearted support for law enforcement agencies, condemning violence in the name of religion and pledging to support peace and stability.

Tactical Achievements of Ghazab-lil-Haq

The Ministry of Information provided a detailed breakdown of the material losses inflicted on the “Master Terror Proxy” over the last three weeks:

  • Air Strikes: 81 locations across Afghanistan were targeted via precision air strikes.

  • Armor & Artillery: 237 heavy assets, including tanks and artillery guns, have been taken off the battlefield.

  • Captured Territory: 44 strategic posts were captured by Pakistani security forces during the advance.
