The Sydney Sixers have generated significant buzz ahead of the Big Bash League (BBL) by unveiling a distinctive jersey number for star Pakistan batter Babar Azam, who has just arrived for his debut season.
To accommodate both Babar and Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc, who share the famous number 56, the franchise assigned the prolific right-hander the creative variation 056, framing the decision as a lighthearted way to distinguish the two high-profile players.

Babar, widely recognized by the number which he adopted as a personal “lucky charm,” officially touched down in Sydney, marking one of the most highly anticipated international stints of the upcoming BBL 15 season, which runs from December 14, 2025, to January 25, 2026.
The Pakistan captain is part of a large contingent of national talent set to participate in the league, including Shaheen Shah Afridi (Brisbane Heat), Mohammad Rizwan (Melbourne Renegades), Haris Rauf (Melbourne Stars), and Shadab Khan (Sydney Thunder).
This influx of Pakistani stars is expected to inject extra flair and significantly boost the tournament’s global viewership. With Babar’s eye-catching arrival and the start of BBL 15 just days away, excitement is building rapidly among Sixers supporters as one of the game’s premier batters gears up for his first full campaign.
