China has said it is ready to strengthen cooperation with Pakistan in fighting terrorism and telecom-related crime, highlighting growing security concerns surrounding Chinese interests in the South Asian country. The statement came during a meeting in Beijing between China’s Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong and Pakistan’s Interior and Counter-Narcotics Minister on Wednesday.

According to a statement released by China’s Ministry of Public Security, Wang said both countries should work closely to address shared risks and challenges. He emphasized the need to protect national security and maintain social stability in both China and Pakistan. The talks reflect Beijing’s increasing focus on the safety of its citizens and investments abroad.
Security has become a sensitive issue in China-Pakistan relations in recent years. Chinese nationals working on large infrastructure projects in Pakistan have been repeatedly targeted by militant attacks. These projects are part of China’s multi-billion-dollar investments under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship component of Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Several deadly attacks on Chinese engineers and workers have raised alarms in Beijing and created pressure on Islamabad to improve protection measures. China has frequently urged Pakistan to take stronger action against militant groups and ensure the safety of Chinese personnel.
In addition to terrorism, Wang highlighted cooperation in tackling telecom and online fraud, crimes that have affected Chinese citizens and often involve cross-border networks. Beijing has increasingly prioritised cracking down on such crimes through international coordination.

The meeting signals China’s intent to deepen security ties with Pakistan beyond economic cooperation. Analysts say Beijing sees stability in Pakistan as critical to the success of its regional infrastructure plans and to protecting its nationals working overseas.
Pakistan, for its part, has repeatedly promised to enhance security for Chinese workers and projects, including deploying special protection units. The renewed commitment from both sides suggests security cooperation will remain a central pillar of the China-Pakistan partnership as both countries face evolving internal and regional threats.
