Gemini Can Now Personalize Responses Using Data From Your Google Apps

Google officially launched a major update to its Gemini AI called Personal Intelligence. This new feature, currently in beta, allows the chatbot to securely connect with a user’s digital ecosystem, including Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search, to provide hyper-relevant and proactive insights. By “connecting the dots” between these apps, Gemini can now understand personal context that was previously invisible to it. For example, a user could ask for tire recommendations, and Gemini would automatically retrieve the car’s model and tire size from past emails or photos to provide an accurate answer.

Privacy is a core component of this rollout. Google has emphasized that Personal Intelligence is off by default, requiring a manual opt-in from users. The company also clarified that while Gemini draws on this data to formulate answers, it does not “directly” train its foundational AI models on your private emails or photos. Instead, it uses specific information from conversations to improve the system only after personal details have been removed. Users maintain full control and can choose which specific apps Gemini is allowed to access through a new dedicated settings menu.

At launch, the feature is exclusively available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States. Google plans to expand this capability to free-tier users and additional countries, including Pakistan, later this year. This release follows a landmark multi-year partnership with Apple, confirmed earlier this week, which will see Gemini models power the next generation of Siri. This collaboration suggests that the deep “context awareness” seen in Personal Intelligence will soon become the standard for billions of smartphone users worldwide.
