Apple Leaks Reveal Radical iPhone 18 Pro Redesign and “iPhone Fold”

A series of comprehensive leaks from industry analysts Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo provided a first look at Apple’s transformative 2026 lineup. The headliner is the iPhone 18 Pro, which is set to eliminate the “Dynamic Island” in favor of under-display Face ID. This breakthrough, developed with OTI Lumionics, uses specialized metalenses to hide sensors beneath the screen, leaving only a small, asymmetrical punch-hole camera in the top-left corner. This shift marks the most significant front-display evolution since the iPhone X debuted nearly a decade ago.

The 2026 Pro models will also introduce a mechanical variable aperture for the main camera, allowing users to physically adjust light intake and depth of field, a first for the iPhone. Powering these devices is the A20 Pro chip, the world’s first mobile processor built on TSMC’s 2nm process. This chip utilizes “Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module” (WMCM) technology to integrate RAM directly onto the processor, promising a 15% speed boost and 30% better efficiency. Additionally, Apple is expected to debut its first-ever “iPhone Fold,” a book-style device with a 7.6-inch inner display and a crease-free screen, priced between $2,000 and $2,500.

To manage the production complexity of these 2nm chips, Apple is reportedly adopting a split-launch strategy. The premium iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone Fold are scheduled for a September 2026 release, while the more affordable “vanilla” iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 may not arrive until Spring 2027. This staggered rollout allows Apple to focus its initial supply chain on high-end hardware while capturing early adopter demand for its boldest technological leap in years.
