Regional Meltdown: Iran Challenges U.S. to Ground Invasion

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that Tehran is “waiting” for a U.S. ground invasion, asserting that Iran has prepared for “any scenario” following a week of devastating U.S.-Israeli strikes. This defiance comes as the IRGC claimed a major naval victory, alleging that drones struck the USS Abraham Lincoln, forcing the carrier strike group to retreat over 1,000 kilometers away from the conflict zone. Despite the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, Araghchi insisted that the U.S. has “failed” to achieve regime change or a rapid victory.

The war has now ignited a massive energy crisis in the Gulf. An Iranian missile strike on Thursday sparked a major fire at Bahrain’s state-owned Bapco refinery on Sitra Island. While the blaze was contained, the attack prompted Britain to withdraw embassy staff from the kingdom. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump waded into the succession crisis, rejecting the late Leader’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as a “lightweight” and insisting that the U.S. must be involved in appointing the next Supreme Leader to ensure “harmony.”

As the conflict spreads, Israel issued an unprecedented evacuation order for the entirety of Beirut’s southern suburbs, sending hundreds of thousands of Lebanese civilians fleeing in panic. The war’s reach now extends from the Indian Ocean, where a U.S. submarine sank an Iranian frigate, to the borders of NATO and Azerbaijan. In response to the escalating chaos, Pakistan’s Foreign Office expressed “serious concern” over strikes hitting Turkey and Azerbaijan, urging restraint as the region teeters on the edge of total collapse.
