On March 6, 2026, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian revealed that several nations have initiated mediation efforts to halt the rapidly expanding regional war. In a statement on X, Pezeshkian emphasized that while Iran is committed to “lasting peace,” it will not compromise on national sovereignty. He pointedly remarked that mediators should focus their pressure on those who “underestimated the Iranian people” and fueled the conflict, referring to the ongoing U.S.-Israeli campaign that has killed over 1,230 people in Iran according to the Red Crescent Society.

The diplomatic overtures come as military actions reach a fever pitch. On Friday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched its 21st wave of strikes, utilizing “Kheibar” missiles and drones to target the heart of Tel Aviv. Simultaneously, Iranian forces expanded their reach across the Middle East, striking the U.S. Al Udeid airbase in Qatar and facilities in Kuwait and Iraq. Tehran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Saeed Khatibzadeh, speaking from New Delhi, characterized the conflict as an “existential war,” vowing that Iran would strike back at any location from which American attacks originate.
Some countries have begun mediation efforts. Let’s be clear: we are committed to lasting peace in the region yet we have no hesitation in defending our nation’s dignity & sovereignty. Mediation should address those who underestimated the Iranian people and ignited this conflict https://t.co/MxWCuNYOYR

Despite the talk of mediation, the battlefield remains chaotic. Israel conducted 26 waves of strikes overnight on Beirut’s southern suburbs, while tensions flared with Azerbaijan following reports of Iranian drone incursions. In Lebanon, Hezbollah has warned Israeli residents near the border to evacuate, signaling a potential escalation in ground hostilities. As the seven-day war spreads into the Indian Ocean and toward NATO borders, the international community’s push for a ceasefire faces a steep uphill battle against a cycle of relentless retaliatory strikes.
