Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam issued a strong call for regional stability during an address at the Islamabad Institute of Strategic Studies. His remarks come at a volatile moment, following intelligence-based strikes launched by Pakistan against terrorist camps inside Afghanistan. Pakistan’s actions were a direct response to a surge in suicide bombings, including attacks on an Islamabad house of worship and multiple blasts in the Bajaur and Bannu regions. Moghadam warned that “war in the region is in no one’s interest” and cautioned that shared enemies are actively working to promote terrorism and separatism.

The Ambassador highlighted the deepening bond between Tehran and Islamabad, noting that recent conflicts, specifically the Pakistan-India tensions and the 12-day Israeli aggression against Iran in 2025, have brought the two neighbors closer together. He lauded Pakistan’s recent diplomatic support in Geneva, where Islamabad voted against an anti-Iran resolution, which he characterized as a major political setback for the United States. Moghadam also reiterated their joint opposition to “Zionist aggression” and any movements seeking to undermine the territorial integrity of either nation.
Despite the current security challenges, the envoy reported that bilateral trade is at a “good level,” supported by 25 high-level Iranian delegations visiting Pakistan over the past year. He defended Iran’s nuclear program as peaceful, citing IAEA declarations, and claimed that Israel’s recent military retreats demonstrated Iran’s growing capability. As tensions fluctuate across the border, Moghadam emphasized that continued vigilance and coordination remain the only path toward ensuring long-term regional resilience.
