Three Journalists Among 11 Killed as Israeli Strikes Target Egyptian Aid Mission

Israeli airstrikes in central Gaza killed at least 11 Palestinians, including three journalists and two children. The journalists, Mohammad Salah Qeshta, Anas Ghunaim, and Abdul Raouf Shaath, were traveling in a vehicle clearly marked with the insignia of the Egyptian Committee for Gaza Relief. According to the committee, the team was on a humanitarian mission to document a newly established displacement camp in the Netzarim Corridor area when their car was hit.

The Israeli military claimed the strike “precisely targeted” suspects who were operating a “drone affiliated with Hamas” that posed a threat to troops. However, witnesses and colleagues stated the journalists were using the drone exclusively for professional aerial filming of aid distribution. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the attack as a “war crime” aimed at silencing the documentation of civilian suffering. One of the victims, Abdul Raouf Shaath, was also a regular contributor to Agence France-Presse (AFP), which clarified he was not on assignment for them at the time.

This latest violence further strains the fragile U.S.-brokered ceasefire that began in October 2025. Gaza’s Government Media Office reports that Israel has committed over 1,300 ceasefire violations, resulting in nearly 500 deaths in just 100 days. As the death toll of media workers in Gaza reaches 234, international watchdog Reporters Without Borders has called for urgent protection, noting that Israel has become the “deadliest place for journalists” in the 21st century.
