Indian security agencies have launched sweeping raids across Kashmir after a devastating car explosion in Delhi killed 13 people, prompting authorities to investigate links to a suspected interstate and transnational terror network. The blast, which occurred outside a major monument during Monday evening rush hour, is one of the deadliest attacks in the capital in over a decade. Though investigators have not formally named a perpetrator, officials say the probe is focused on a “terror module” previously targeted in nationwide raids.
The NIA took over the case on Tuesday after police revealed that seven people had recently been arrested, including two Kashmiri doctors working in other Indian states. During a raid at one doctor’s home in Faridabad, police reportedly recovered nearly 3,000kg of explosives, detonators, chemicals, and assault rifles, suggesting preparations for a larger, multi-target attack. Investigators allege that another Kashmiri doctor drove the vehicle that later exploded in Delhi, though this link remains unconfirmed.
Hours after the blast, authorities demolished the alleged driver’s home in Kashmir in what critics describe as “bulldozer justice,” a controversial practice increasingly used in cases involving accusations of terrorism. The Indian government, which blamed Pakistan after a major attack earlier this year, has adopted a more cautious tone this time, signalling uncertainty over the group’s origins. Security forces in Kashmir remain on high alert as raids continue and authorities warn of the possibility of further plots.
