KP Government Announces Fuel Relief: Rs55 Subsidy for Motorcyclists

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a significant relief package for motorcyclists to counter the federal government’s recent fuel price hike. Chief Minister Sohail Afridi approved a direct subsidy of Rs55 per litre, which effectively allows motorcycle owners to purchase fuel at the previous price. This initiative is specifically designed to protect low- and middle-income commuters from the sudden spike in transportation costs.

Under this scheme, each registered motorcycle owner in the province will receive a total financial benefit of Rs2,200. The subsidy is structured to cover 40 litres of petrol per month, which matches the Rs55 per litre increase recently imposed nationwide. This relief will be disbursed in two equal installments of Rs1,100 each. The provincial government has allocated approximately Rs3.2 billion to fund the program, which is expected to benefit between 1.4 million and 1.6 million registered bikers.

In addition to the direct fuel subsidy, the Chief Minister confirmed that fares for the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will remain unchanged. The provincial government will absorb the increased operational costs rather than passing them on to the public. To further assist commuters, the administration also announced the introduction of 10 new “Pink Buses” within the BRT fleet specifically for women and a forthcoming relief package for farmers ahead of the wheat harvest season.
