Jordan’s King Abdullah II Arrives in Pakistan for Two-Day State Visit to Deepen Bilateral Ties

His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan was warmly received by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari upon arrival at Nur Khan Airbase Saturday for a two-day state visit aimed at elevating Pakistan-Jordan relations to a new strategic level.

The high-level welcome included PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari. A formation of Pakistan Air Force JF-17 Thunder jets escorted the royal aircraft into Pakistani airspace, symbolizing the deep fraternal bond.

President Zardari stated: “King Abdullah II’s visit will give Pakistan–Jordan relations a new strategic dimension, rooted in historical brotherhood, mutual trust, and shared values.” A PTV News release on X highlighted that the visit “reflects longstanding fraternal relations” and will strengthen political, economic, and cultural cooperation.

At the Prime Minister’s House, King Abdullah II was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour. He will hold one-on-one talks with PM Shehbaz, followed by delegation-level discussions to expand collaboration in defence, trade, housing, and civil protection.

This marks the monarch’s first state visit since 2018, when MoUs on defence and housing were signed with then-President Mamnoon Hussain. Last month, King Abdullah II commended the Pakistani military’s role in regional peace during a meeting with COAS Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in Amman, attended by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.

Pakistan and Jordan reaffirmed their commitment to enhanced strategic partnership, regional stability, and people-to-people ties. The visit underscores both nations’ shared vision for a prosperous, secure future.
