The death toll from a devastating multi-vehicle collision on the M9 Motorway rose to 13 after a six-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries at a Karachi hospital. The accident, which occurred on Friday evening near Gadap, involved an oil tanker, a trailer, a Hilux pickup, and a passenger van. In a heartbreaking turn of events, rescue officials confirmed that 12 of the deceased were members of the same family who were traveling together when the disaster struck.

Investigations have revealed a lethal combination of reckless driving and severe safety violations. According to the police report, the oil tanker first struck a trailer before spiraling out of control and crashing into the pickup and the passenger van. Crucially, authorities discovered that both the pickup and the van were traveling in the wrong direction at the time of impact. Further inspections showed that the tanker driver lacked a license, while the passenger van was operating without a fitness certificate or a valid route permit.

The Karachi police have registered a formal case involving charges of unintentional homicide due to negligent driving. While the drivers of the tanker and the pickup died at the scene, the driver of the passenger van fled the area and remains at large. Currently, four survivors remain hospitalized, with one in critical condition.
