President Trump, who brokered the landmark 2020 Abraham Accords normalizing ties between Israel and the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco, continues to press Saudi Arabia to join the pact. In a CBS “60 Minutes” interview aired Sunday, Trump expressed confidence: “I believe the Saudis will ultimately join the accords.” Earlier this month, he reiterated expectations for swift expansion, emphasizing Saudi participation’s role in regional stability. Riyadh’s hesitation stems from the absence of progress toward Palestinian statehood, but the visit signals potential breakthroughs.
Discussions may culminate in signing a US-Saudi security pact, providing formal U.S. defense guarantees and access to advanced weaponry. A senior Trump official noted to Reuters: “There are discussions about signing something when the crown prince comes, but details are in flux.” Saudi Arabia, a top U.S. arms buyer, seeks enhanced protections in exchange for its oil stability contributions. During Trump’s May 2025 Riyadh visit, the U.S. approved a $142 billion arms package, and MBS pledged $600 billion in investments—prompting Trump’s quip for a $1 trillion commitment.
This marks MBS’s second White House trip under Trump’s presidency, building on decades of strong bilateral ties. The agenda also covers AI, nuclear cooperation, trade, and investment, per reports.
