Strategic Summit: Netanyahu Meets Trump to Shape “Great Deal” with Iran

Feb 12, 2026 | Latest News, Global Affairs

President Donald Trump hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House for their seventh meeting in 13 months. The high-stakes summit centered on the evolving U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations, with Netanyahu urging a significant expansion of the diplomatic scope. Fearing a narrow agreement that only addresses uranium enrichment, Netanyahu presented intelligence arguing that any deal must also dismantle Iran’s ballistic missile program and end its support for regional proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah.

The meeting comes amidst a massive U.S. military buildup in the region. President Trump confirmed he is “thinking” of sending a second aircraft carrier strike group, part of a growing “armada” to pressure Tehran. “Either we will make a deal, or we will have to do something very tough like last time,” Trump told Axios, referring to the June 2025 air strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. While Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian stated today that Tehran is open to international inspectors to prove its “peaceful” intentions, the regime remains defiant, with officials declaring their missile capabilities “non-negotiable.”

Despite their close alignment on deterrence, the meeting exposed friction regarding the future of Gaza. Trump is reportedly frustrated by the slow implementation of his 20-Point Peace Plan, which hit a milestone in January when the final hostage remains were returned. While Trump’s plan hints at eventual Palestinian statehood, Netanyahu’s far-right coalition continues to resist. Furthermore, Trump publicly reiterated his opposition to West Bank annexation, just days after Netanyahu’s cabinet authorized expanded land-purchase powers for settlers.
