Pakistan Demands Action from Kabul Following Bajaur Suicide Attack

Pakistan’s Foreign Office issued a stern diplomatic demarche to the Afghan Deputy Head of Mission, following a deadly suicide attack in the Bajaur district earlier this week. The incident, which occurred on February 16, resulted in the deaths of 11 security personnel and a young girl. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “serious concern” that the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), or Fitna al-Khwarij, continues to operate with impunity from sanctuaries within Afghanistan.

The attack involved an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into a joint checkpost manned by the military and law enforcement agencies. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces retaliated swiftly, eliminating 12 militants during the subsequent fire raid. Pakistan has warned the Afghan Taliban regime that it must take “immediate, concrete, and verifiable” measures against terror leadership on its soil. Crucially, the Foreign Office stated that Pakistan reserves the “right to respond” and eliminate militants wherever they are located to ensure territorial integrity.

Tensions between the two neighbors have reached a boiling point, with Defence Minister Khawaja Asif reiterating that further airstrikes inside Afghanistan remain a viable option if the Taliban fails to curb cross-border terrorism. While Kabul continues to deny the presence of TTP militants, the surge in violence has prompted Pakistan to intensify its “Azm-e-Istehkam” counter-terrorism campaign.
